It is  one of the fundamental rules of politics: put the word out too late on Friday for the morning papers and just as most people are turning off attention to anything other than taking a break from the work week.

So, two questions:

Is the Romney campaign, which has been terrible at doing many basic things that campaigns do, so truly god-awful that they’d put out The Major Announcement of the summer at exactly the wrong time?

Or is the Romney campaign psychologically telling us that it knows that the selection of Paul Ryan is a clear admission that the Mittster is now totally and completely in thrall to the Crazy Right and, in effect, now the “running mate” and not The Candidate?
