Seriously, once civilization collapses, which could be almost any day now if you’re paying atttention, you will need something to discuss around the campfires with the Nerds, who will be, according to all predictions, the species which best can survive without the amenities of civilized life.

I lead a sheltered life. Until a year ago I had no knowledge or awareness of Dr. Who. Then I fell into a community of people playing an online game created by Thomas Dolby (a musical favorite for decades) and now it seems the show is everywhere I look.
I’ve still not seen an episode, and the prospects on Netflix are confusing. What’s available appears to be a jumble of seasons and episodes. Where and when should I start? I’d like to see it from the very beginning but the earliest seasons seem not to be available. Can one jump in and out of random seasons/episodes, or is it best to maintain a semblance of chronological order?
TIA
a far as I know, the early years are not available.
BBC America is your answer if it’s on your cable system. http://www.bbcamerica.com/doctor-who/schedule/
On Amazon you can watch most the modern day series (2005 – 2012) streaming online for $1.99 an episode or join Amazon Prime and watch for free (which would be cheaper).
Watching in order is best, at least within each season.
